“SLEEP, THE IMMUNE SYSTEM AND THE “DRACULA HORMONE”
Pursuing our dreams and ambitions has heightened our awareness of the vital role physical and mental wellness play in our “master plan”. Seems obvious…….but sometimes the obvious has to hit you in the head.

We’ll be writing and passing along our experiences going forward that we find help us strengthen OUR Immune Systems. Today, we look at “Sleep”.
Medline Research shows that individuals sleeping 6 hours or less a night are more than 4 times more likely to catch a cold compared to those who were logging 7+ hours of sleep.
Sleep deprived individuals are 11.5 times more likely to be left unprotected by vaccines than people who are getting 7+ hours of sleep.
Do we need sleep? ABSOLUTELY! Sometimes we struggle to get it, and as performing artists, erratic work schedules can play havoc with a sleep regimen. Since we stress the use of natural products, when we struggle with sleep, we look to a naturally occurring hormone, whimsically called “The Dracula Hormone”
MELATONIN………….A hormone naturally occurring in our bodies.
As we age and exert ourselves physically, melatonin production begins to decline. Its “job” is NOT to “knock us out” or even “put us to sleep”! Simply, it is nature’s way of telling our brains, “Hey, it’s getting late, time for some sleep”. With normal levels, the body then naturally begins to relax and prepare itself for a healthy sleep cycle. (The Dracula Hormone analogy exists because your body ONLY “turns on” the Melatonin switch in dim light, when the body needs a reminder that “sleep time” is approaching).
